Don and Carol Katonak came from Colorado to Amherst,Ohio and made some surprise visits to relatives and friends. A surprise visit to Lorna Raynak Middendorf happened on Sunday,November 25,2012 in the afternoon. At the time of the visit, Lorna was doing her daily dose of FAMILY HISTORY on her laptop, grinding out the details available online. She explains: FAMILY HISTORY is really never finished. If you are addicted to searching out the mysteries and wonderings of family stories you keep looking and looking. Just ask Marie Katonak Wallace and newer family detective Judy West. Lorna promises to wrap up a semi-complete Katonak Family Story by the end of 2012 (or??) and to make available the famiy tree, selected stories and now about 1000 photos on DVD. Is anyone interested in sharing the known family secrets?
Let me know at lmiddendorf2@gmail.com a newer email address.
It was a good visit, catching up on many happenings and trying to make contact with other nearby relatives. The photo of the cousins was taken at Blue Skye Restaurant in Amherst, Ohio, where Don was having lunch with some former classmates. Carol was there, too.
If you want to visit any part of the Katonak family come by, or drop by online at this blog Finding Katonak Families (just Google it) and post your news. It may get published. Happy Holidays and Good Visiting.
Finding Katonak Families
Who are the Katonaks? Katonaks are men and women, girls and boys, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, great-grandmothers, nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles, mostly related by birth and association to a family -- All those descended from a common ancestor of a tiny mountain village in Eastern Slovakia, now after 700 years called Gemerskej Polony (aka Mala Poloma).

For example, your granddaughter has been selected to be part of the upcoming Olympic Games women's soccer events. How would you describe her? What are her special talents? What has soccer done to enhance her life? Where have soccer events taken her? How did she get to the place she is? Tell us about it.

David Katonak Visits Slovakia
My dad told me he wanted to hear about my trip to Slovakia. Do you have specific questions? We had a great trip. We visited Bratislava, Kosice and of course Gemerska Poloma. We first met Jana Katonakova in Bratislava and got to spend a day or two with her. She met us at the train station, we arrived via Vienna. Then we met Ina Oracova, her Dad was a Katonak (he'd passed a couple years earlier). Ina travelled with us all over the country, from Bratislava to Gemerska Poloma. There we met her brother Vlado, and we stayed with another Katonak, Vlado for a few days. We traveled around the area with Ina translating and her brother driving, to Spissky castle, an ice cave, the Tatras, and to Roznava. We also took a bus with Ina to Kosice and met Lubo's brother, Jan Katonak and wife and son. Really a great experience.
